Sainte Chapelle
Paris, France
Style: Late / Rayonnat, b. 1243, c. 1248
This small, exquisitely ornamented royal chapel, located in heart of Paris, is most notable for the extreme proportions of stained glass found within its airy structure. The interior of the upper section is often described as a jewel box, with the brilliance and saturation of colors in the stained glass, which is amongst the oldest in Paris (from the 13th century). The structure was originally meant to house thre relics of Louis IX (including the Crown of Thorns), all of which are now housed in Notre Dame's treasury.
