Beauvais Cathedral
Beauvais, France
High Gothic, b. 1225, c. 1568
Height: 157 feet
Having the highest gothic choir in the world, Beauvais is notable for not having been finished. As seen from the photograph, the nave was never completed after the collapse of high vaulting in 1284, and all that exists of this massively high cathedral is the transcept and choir.
This cathedral also has an interesting blend of High and Late/Flamboyant gothic in its ornamentation. While the majority of the building was made during the High Gothic's "rush to the sky," the porches all reflect a rich flamboyant ornamentation.
